UP SIT to probe Rs 43 cr deals by don Dubey’s aides | India News

NEW DELHI: Two separate investigation reports prepared by UP authorities in 2017 and 2018 that flagged off “suspicious police activity” in providing gun licence and passport verification to two of Vikas Dubey’s aides as well as land purchases worth Rs 43 crore made by the brother duo will now be part of the special investigation team (SIT) probe into alleged links that local police had with the Kanpur gangster.
UP ADGP (law and order) Prashant Kumar confirmed to TOI that all past reports on Vikas Dubey and those associated with him will be probed by the SIT. “The SIT team will investigate the alleged discrepancy in issuance of gun licences and financial irregularities in purchase of properties,” he said.
It is not known what action was taken on the reports on the assets amassed by brothers Jai Bajpai and Rajaykant Bajpai — sons of a tyre repair technician who were questioned last week for allegedly helping Dubey carry out the attack on policemen and escape.
In 2017, the Kanpur district administration had sought assessment of eight properties held by Bajpai brothers. It had taken cognisance of a complaint by advocate Saurabh Bhaudaria that Jai, who once worked in a printing press had allegedly amassed properties worth Rs 27 crore. Eight properties worth Rs 43 crore associated with the brothers were scrutinised by the Kanpur administration.
These included three bungalows purchased between 2012 and 2015 as well as a duplex in Kanpur’s Panki. The administration report also sought a probe into allegations that the brothers had up to eight gunmen “who did not have commercial gun licences but accompanied them to enable land grabbing”. It is not clear who the report was submitted to for further action.
In another report, submitted on March 21, 2018 to Kanpur Police, Kannauj ASP K C Goswami had sought scrutiny of police officers at two police stations — Nazirabad and Bajari. “A gun licence was issued to Rajaykant in 2016 from Bajaria police station and a passport verification was issued to him in 2018 from Nazirabad police station. But the intention and integrity of police officers who sanctioned these two certificates have been found to be suspicious. Subsequent action is needed on this,” the report had said. The probe was initiated by then Kanpur IG Alok Singh.
